For different results, you’ve got to do things differently. That was the mindset of Jacksonville Jaguars owner Shad Khan after the team’s underwhelming 2024 showing. So he restructured the coaching staff, placing Liam Coen at the helm as head coach and bringing in Anthony Campanile to reengineer the Jaguars’ crumbling defense.

Now the first signs of this tactical overhaul are starting to turn heads. And it’s crystal clear—Liam Coen didn’t arrive in Jacksonville just to decorate the sideline. His plan is to inject direction, intensity, and legitimacy into a roster that simply fell apart on the defensive side of the ball last season.

Liam Coen to the rescue

That defensive collapse didn’t go unnoticed, especially not by Shad Khan. That’s why he handed the keys to Liam Coen and paired him with Campanile—two leaders with aggressive, high-energy profiles. Coen knew the only way forward was to flip the script.

The defense, once gasping for air, is now loaded with new strength—a major win for Liam Coen and Anthony Campanile. Veterans like Devin Lloyd, who led the league in tackling efficiency in 2024, and Mason Cameron anchor the unit. Foyesade Oluokun adds dependable muscle and field vision with his consistent production over the past three seasons.

Head coach Liam Coen also has a handful of promising young names in the mix: Ventrell Miller, Chad Muma, and rookie Jack Kiser. While they might not start Week 1, they bring depth, stamina, and upside to a defense that’s ready to rotate and reload.

A new order in the jungle

Then there’s Josh Hines-Allen, the kind of defensive end any NFL team would dream of having. Under Liam Coen’s leadership, he’s aiming high. “When I’m healthy and where I’m supposed to be, I know I can be the best defensive player in the NFL,” Hines-Allen said recently. His last season proved he’s not just talk—and Coen might be the catalyst that pushes him over the top.

Adding even more buzz, Liam Coen’s Jaguars drafted Travis Hunter, the electric rookie out of Colorado. Hunter made waves at the draft with his rare ability to contribute on both sides of the ball. But for now, Coen and his staff have him lined up for a defensive role—where he’s already making noise in training camp with an unmistakable hunger to compete. His mindset fits perfectly with the franchise’s new DNA.

Liam Coen’s plan is in motion

All these moves aim toward one shared goal: flipping the chaos of 2024 into a redemption story. Liam Coen’s blueprint looks solid so far—especially with the Jaguars now ranked in the top 6 linebacker units by Pro Football Focus (PFF). But of course, the real story starts once the ball is snapped.

With Liam Coen steering the ship, the Jaguars finally look ready to stop surviving—and start hunting.
