Even though he is a key piece for the Baltimore Ravens, the drama surrounding Lamar Jackson’s contract has not ended. According to NFL insider Tom Pelissero, the quarterback’s future remains under discussion within the franchise. However, the 28-year-old stays calm about the situation.

Jackson continues to be one of the highest-paid players in the NFL. His agreement with the Ravens is not a concern. He is at his peak and fully aware of his value to Baltimore or any other team in the league.

Contract security for Jackson

According to Essentiallysports, in the September 5 episode of The Rich Eisen Show, Pelissero said: “There have been negotiations. They’ve talked extensively about what a deal for Lamar Jackson could look like, but he’s in a unique spot here… Obviously, Eric DeCosta, the general manager, has publicly said they want to get something done with Lamar sooner rather than later, which makes sense.”

Still, Pelissero noted that a deal may not be signed until after Sunday: “I think it would be front-page news if it happened Sunday morning on game day. At this point, I’d lean toward it not happening.”

He added: “From a cash-earnings perspective, sometimes you get to the later years of a contract and those numbers go down. Lamar remains one of the players who will make the most money over the next few years… There’s really no reason for Lamar to rush and accept a deal because he’s earning that kind of money.”

Since 2023, Jackson has enjoyed excellent financial security. That year, he signed a five-year, $260 million extension with $185 million guaranteed. His annual salary is about $52 million, while his current cap hit stands at $43.5 million, rising to $74.5 million in 2026 and 2027.

That explains why Jackson stays relaxed despite the uncertainty. “You’ve got a team that would like to get a deal done sooner rather than later. And you’ve got a player whose deal is already there for him. The only question is how much money he continues to make right now,” Pelissero concluded.
