Key losses
Buffalo’s defense has taken some serious hits. Michael Hoecht is out with an Achilles injury, and Ed Oliver remains unavailable. On offense, the lack of a true deep-threat receiver continues to be a glaring need. Names like Jakobi Meyers and Chris Olave have surfaced in trade talks, but price tags and availability are hurdles. One thing’s for sure: the team’s full confidence is placed in Josh Allen.

Head coach Sean McDermott didn’t hide the fact that moves are in motion. “We could use some help,” he admitted. He also hinted that conversations with GM Brandon Beane are active. McDermott said he shares his vision for the team and that Beane consults him on the tactical fit of potential targets. “He’ll have me look at one or two players,” McDermott noted. Without revealing specifics, he confirmed that projects are underway. Some analysts believe the goal is to build a roster that complements Josh Allen’s strengths.
A team under construction
Meanwhile, young players like Maxwell Hairston, Cole Bishop, and Jordan Hancock have stepped up. Bishop stood out against Kansas City with the most tackles and four key pass deflections. McDermott praised their energy but was clear: development alone won’t close the gaps in a championship run.
The financial restructuring is just the first step. If the Bills pull off a trade, it’ll signal they’re serious about surrounding Josh Allen with the talent needed to compete in an increasingly fierce AFC. And if they don’t, they’ve at least made it clear—they’re not sitting this one out.
