Reports suggest the Jets are keen on ensuring their quarterback’s protection by strengthening the offensive line. Last season’s stats show the team allowed 40 sacks, highlighting the need for improvement. According to CBS Sports analyst Garrett Podell’s mock draft, the franchise is targeting one of the top offensive line prospects in this year’s draft—a standout from LSU.
The draft is the solution
According to Podell, the Jets are showing strong interest in Will Campbell. “They have a vacancy at left tackle with Tyron Smith entering free agency. They’re filling that hole with the best offensive line prospect in the draft, LSU’s Will Campbell,” wrote Podell.
“Yes, they used last year’s first-round pick (11th overall) on Penn State’s left tackle, Olumuyiwa Fashanu. But now New York has two cornerstone tackles to support their new quarterback.”
Campbell boasts impressive credentials that make him an attractive choice for the Jets. He is regarded as the best offensive lineman in his conference and earned the SEC’s Jacobs Blocking Trophy. Additionally, he played in 37 games with the LSU Tigers.
An unmissable prospect
As if that weren’t enough, Campbell’s technical skills dazzled the Jets at the Combine. The LSU alumnus put on a fantastic performance, clocking the fifth-fastest time in the 40-yard dash. He also stood out with the second-best broad jump among all offensive line prospects.
While other teams may also have their sights set on Campbell, predictions suggest the Jets won’t hesitate. All that’s left is to wait for April 24th, when the excitement of the 2025 NFL draft will finally unfold.
