After all the drama surrounding Micah Parsons’ contract extension, Jerry Jones traded him to the Green Bay Packers. In return, he secured Kenny Clark and two first-round draft picks. Was it the right decision for the Cowboys’ owner? Maybe. But Jones insists he has no regrets about making that move.

Cowboys fans felt shocked by the trade. Parsons is a star pass rusher, considered a generational talent. While many believed Jones acted for financial reasons, he claimed he did it for the benefit of both the player and the team. Parsons himself recently admitted that tension inside the Cowboys’ locker room had become overwhelming.

A win-win decision

According to Firstsportz, Jones made it clear he doesn’t regret the trade. He even feels relieved knowing that Parsons signed a $47 million per year contract with the Packers.

On Friday at The Star, Jones acknowledged he took a huge risk by trading a player like Parsons. He explained with an analogy:

“I hate using the old adage, but that ‘riverboat gambler.’ The riverboat gambler, when he’s holding the next card, could own the boat and it’s wonderful, or he could get thrown into the river, depending on the way that card falls. And that’s when he’s at his best, not when he knows what’s going to happen. But let me tell you one damn thing, that riverboat gambler knows how to swim because he’s been thrown in there before, alright.”

The 82-year-old billionaire outlined his reasoning: “Remember, you can’t have it all. You just can’t have it all… There’s only so much space in $200 million to spend over a period of time. What I’m doing with you guys is covering several years over these next four years.”

Jones appears convinced that this decision will bring long-term benefits for the Cowboys. He also emphasized he didn’t want to miss the chance to add draft picks, which he believes will pay off down the road.
