Rumors around the NFL strongly suggest that Jerry Jones is highly likely to hire a new head coach for the Dallas Cowboys. The candidate? A legendary figure from college football. This news shakes the league, especially because the team hired Brian Schottenheimer for the position just this past January.

The Cowboys underperformed last season, finishing with a 7-10 record. After that, Mike McCarthy left the franchise, and Schottenheimer took over as head coach.

A surprise for the NFL world

This week, strong rumors emerged that Jerry Jones may have hired Nick Sabanthe Alabama Crimson Tide icon—as the new head coach. Saban is currently working at ESPN, but he could return to the sidelines. The big question: Will it be at the college level or with the Dallas franchise?

According to The Sun, NFL insider Albert Breer and commentator Colin Cowherd raised the possibility that Saban might coach the Cowboys. Cowherd believes Jerry Jones could pursue the college football legend, especially after Schottenheimer’s ineffective season.

“So [Saban] is the greatest college football coach of all time… He goes to ESPN for a couple of years and becomes an absolute home run as an analyst… I have a gut feeling. He’s not going to Jacksonville… But Brian Schottenheimer is in over his head, and Jerry Jones says: ‘I don’t want another NFL ego’… And Jerry could go to Saban and say, ‘Okay, this Schottenheimer thing isn’t working,'” Cowherd said.

Jayden Daniels and Jalen Hurts. I need someone who knows college personnel… If you’re talking about one guy, just ego-wise, the best college coach of all time, a five-star analyst on TV, undisputed, still young, sharp as a tack, and then the Dallas Cowboys call… Is he really going to ignore that call?” he added.**

Breer responded: “It definitely makes sense… The Cowboys aren’t that far from Alabama.” He also recalled that in the ’90s, the franchise wanted to hire Saban when he was at Michigan State. However, he expressed doubt that it will happen now, saying it would be “a move away from the spotlight for Jones.”
