Netflix’s documentary series Quarterback began its second season, and one episode in particular grabbed viewers’ attention. When that episode aired, former NFL player and commentator Tom Brady had a reaction that Jared Goff didn’t miss.

The episode titled “Beautiful Minds” focuses on Jared Goff, who made an exceptional play against the Lions in Week 6 while playing for the Dallas Cowboys. Detroit won that game 47-9. Brady called the play outstanding and didn’t hide his excitement.

“When I look at this offense, it reminds me what a great NFL offense should be… I’d love to be the quarterback in that offense. It looks really fun,” Brady said. Goff watched the clip and responded clearly: “Yeah. Too bad, Tom. You’re retired,” he said with a smile.

“It’s fun playing quarterback in our offense. I have a lot of ownership and control, and they give me the keys to much of what we do. I appreciate Tom saying that, but Tom, stay in the booth. You can keep calling games—it’s been fun,” added the Lions’ quarterback.

According to a report by Marca, Jared Goff is a key player for Dan Campbell, helping turn the Lions into strong NFL contenders. In fact, early in the 2024 season, former Patriots linebacker Tedy Bruschi praised Goff, saying, “Jared Goff is the best quarterback in the league right now.”

Though Goff has been compared to Brady at times, he’s working hard to build his own legacy while focusing on leading his team to the 2026 Super Bowl.
