Jalen Hurts didn’t just open the 2025 season with a tight win over the Cowboys (24-20). He did it with one of the greatest sports icons sitting in the stands: Michael Jordan. The six-time NBA champion, whose net worth is estimated at $3.8 billion according to Forbes, showed up at Lincoln Financial Field to watch the Eagles quarterback in action. And Hurts, far from being rattled, turned it into emotional fuel.

As reported by Sportskeeda, Jalen Hurts referred to Michael Jordan as “a special friend” and “close mentor.” After the game, he rocked his custom Air Jordan 11s and said. “Had to get the job done with my guy in town.” At the press conference, he was even more direct: “When someone special is in the crowd, there’s only one thing to do—win.”

A solid friendship

The bond between Jalen Hurts and Michael Jordan has grown stronger in recent months. They spent time together during the preseason, and the quarterback has embraced part of the competitive mindset that made Jordan a legend. Hurts doesn’t hide his ambition. He wants to build a dynasty in Philadelphia, just like the Bulls did in the ’90s.

Even though his stats weren’t jaw-dropping (153 passing yards, 62 rushing yards, and two touchdowns), Jalen Hurts led with poise and purpose. His ability to control the tempo and deliver in key moments was enough to kick off the title defense with a divisional win.

A symbolic nod

Michael Jordan’s presence wasn’t just symbolic. It marked a generational crossover between two athletes who see sports as legacy. Jalen Hurts, only 26, has already proven he can handle pressure. And having Jordan in the stands was a quiet validation that he’s on the right path.

Next up for Jalen Hurts and the Eagles is a showdown against the Chiefs at Arrowhead. A game loaded with emotional weight after Philadelphia’s Super Bowl win. But if Michael Jordan shows up again, we already know what that means for Hurts: inspiration, accountability, and results. When greatness is watching, there’s no room for mistakes.
