The Cleveland Browns’ quarterback saga took an unexpected turn this week. After trading Joe Flacco to the Cincinnati Bengals, the franchise announced that Shedeur Sanders, their fifth-round pick in the 2025 draft, has officially been promoted to QB2. The move shakes up the team’s depth chart and puts the young quarterback one step closer to making his NFL debut—or at least that’s what some are hoping. Meanwhile, many are eager to hear what his father, Deion Sanders, has to say.

In that regard, sports outlets like Firstsportz highlighted Deion Sanders’ comments about Shedeur Sanders. True to his blunt style, “Coach Prime” made it clear he’s not concerned with what’s happening in Cleveland unless his son is named starter. “I couldn’t care less about the Browns. Not at all. I care about the Colorado Buffaloes… Although I love Shedeur, believe me, I care. The rest, I don’t,” Deion Sanders said at a press conference.

A clear stance

Deion Sanders’ position isn’t surprising. Ever since the Browns halted Shedeur Sanders’ draft slide, the spotlight has leaned more toward media buzz than actual player development. According to reports, team owner Jimmy Haslam may have banked on the Sanders name as a marketing tool. So far, that bet has paid off in media coverage—though not always in a positive light.

Shedeur Sanders, meanwhile, has kept a professional demeanor. After Flacco’s trade, he praised the veteran for his mentorship and said he learned a lot during their time together. “Everyone has their own destiny and their own plans in life,” he told FOX8 News. The young quarterback also noted that Flacco would miss the jokes he cracked during team meetings.

Internal pressure

With a 1-4 record and Dillon Gabriel still starting, the Browns are facing pressure from inside and out. Analysts like Skip Bayless have weighed in, and others are already calling for Shedeur Sanders to take over. “If he had started from Week 1, the Browns would be the talk of the NFL,” Bayless said. He believes Deion Sanders’ son has the winning instinct that Gabriel hasn’t shown yet.

Shedeur SandersNFL journey is just beginning, but it’s already loaded with expectations, legacy, and pressure. His promotion to QB2 doesn’t guarantee playing time, but it does open the door to a storyline that could reshape the Browns’ season. And while Deion Sanders insists he doesn’t care, it’s still his son’s team—so chances are, he’ll have more to say soon.
