Dak Prescott is the starting quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys. However, fans worry that he is losing his elite status in the NFL.
According to The Athletic, Prescott fell to 12th place among NFL quarterbacks this year. This is a drop of three spots compared to 2024. Clearly, this situation makes the Cowboys’ offense uncertain and concerned about his performance in the 2025-26 season.
Injuries have sidelined him
Essentiallysports reports that Dak Prescott only played in eight games last year. A tendon injury forced him out for the rest of the season. Because of this, ESPN’s NFL executive survey ranked his performance below rising stars like Jayden Daniels and Caleb Williams.

Prescott was not the only player affecting the Cowboys’ team performance. WR CeeDee Lamb missed training camp due to contract issues, and Prescott needed his support.
Also, the retirement of Zack Martin dealt a hard blow to the franchise’s offensive line. Without that support, Prescott struggled, and critics started questioning if he still belongs among the NFL’s best.
About Prescott, a coach said: “Dak has been fantastic for what he is. He plays beyond his draft status all the time. He plays beyond his physical abilities most of the time. And then he steps up when it really matters.” Still, he needs his teammates to make positive plays for the Cowboys.
In response, Jerry Jones’ team addressed the franchise’s weaknesses. They signed George Pickens, who gives Prescott a reason to complement CeeDee Lamb. They also brought in Tyler Booker to strengthen the offensive line.
