Indeed, the Kansas City Chiefs have been the gold standard of the AFC, largely due to Mahomes stepping into the starting role back in 2018. But according to sports commentator Michael Holley, there could be an unexpected twist on the horizon.
Looking at the numbers, the Chiefs boast three Super Bowl wins in the past five years. They’re seen as nearly unbeatable by many, but staying at the top is no easy feat.
This was evident last February when the Chiefs faced the bitter disappointment of losing to the Philadelphia Eagles. Some are now speculating that their golden era is nearing its twilight.

Holley shared his opinion during NFL on NBC, where he was asked which franchise had its “biological clock ticking.” He chose the Chiefs.
“I’m going with the Kansas City Chiefs. It seems strange, but when you analyze the entire franchise: Andy Reid, Steve Spagnuolo from the coaching perspective, Patrick Mahomes at 30 years old, Travis Kelce’s return—the most important figures in the franchise are already aging. So I think time is running out for the Kansas City Chiefs. While they’re still excellent, their window of opportunity is shrinking,” Holley remarked.
Holley’s statement carries significant weight and raises questions about whether age and time could dictate the team’s fate. Predicting the future remains difficult, but the Chiefs’ strength is undeniable. If they want to remain atop the league, they’ll need to reinforce their roster and prove they can outrun time.
