Starting this year, Ben Johnson joined the Chicago Bears as head coach. Now, he faces the challenge of helping develop quarterback Caleb Williams, but will the two of them be able to pull the franchise out of the hole it fell into in 2024? Truthfully, only when the NFL season kicks off will it be possible to make a real projection.
Expectations for Williams were extremely high. Ryan Poles, the Bears’ general manager, selected him first overall last year. It seems that now the quarterback has a clear goal: to train hard and improve his throws, leaving behind the criticism tied to his rookie-year performance.
A clear goal and full commitment to the Bears
According to Firstsportz, Williams is currently at the Bears’ training camp and wants to turn things around. In fact, reports state that he vowed to become the first quarterback in franchise history to throw for over 4,000 yards. He also aims to complete 70% of his passes.
Caleb Williams has stacked back-to-back practices that looked “incredible” and “miles ahead of where he started.”🔥

“Pressure isn’t really a thing… I know we didn’t win as many games as we wanted last year, but I didn’t have 20 [touchdowns] and 20 interceptions and stuff like that. So, you know, take it how you want, but pressure doesn’t prevail; pressure is a privilege. But you know the situation I’m in. I don’t think I feel pressure,” said Williams.
According to Dan Orlovsky, a former NFL quarterback, Caleb Williams has all the tools to become an elite player. But in Orlovsky’s view, he must change certain lifestyle habits.
“He has to unlearn a decade of playing a certain style of football and rebuild his habits. Frankly, that will take years. Ben Johnson worked closely with Jared Goff, and it took Goff four or five years in the NFL to develop that part of his footwork. So, it’s not that it will be impossible by October, November, or December. It’s just going to take time,” Orlovsky explained.
Chicago Bears fans have high hopes for the 23-year-old quarterback. Will he live up to the expectations?
