The Buffalo Bills face a major blow just before Week 1 of the NFL regular season. Defensive tackle DeWayne Carter suffered a serious Achilles injury that will sideline him for the entire 2025-26 season.

According to ESPN’s report, Carter felt discomfort during last Wednesday’s team practice. The 24-year-old confirmed he tore his Achilles and won’t return this season.

A devastating revelation for one of the Bills’ young prospects

As the New York Post reported, Carter shared his status on his official X account. He reposted news about his injury and added: “This is all part of my testimony. I’ll be back now. John 13:7.”

This injury delivers a heavy blow to the Bills’ defensive line, since Carter was set to rotate alongside starters Ed Oliver and DaQuan Jones. It was a golden opportunity that has now vanished.

The situation gets worse considering Larry Ogunjobi and Michael Hoecht are suspended. The NFL banned both linemen for the first six games after violating the league’s performance-enhancing substance policy.

The Bills might replace Carter with one of their three rookie defensive linemen: T.J. Sanders, Landon Jackson, or Deone Walker. They must act fast, since the team opens the season on September 7 in “Sunday Night Football” against the Ravens.

The franchise drafted Carter out of Duke with the 95th overall pick in the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft.
