Ben DiNucci marked his release in an iconic way. The Atlanta Falcons released him for the seventh time in his career at the end of preseason. To celebrate, he did something unusual that caught the attention of NFL fans.

The 28-year-old quarterback spent only a week with the Falcons, after head coach Raheem Morris signed him on August 15 to give Michael Penix Jr. and Kirk Cousins a break. Still, the team sent him back to free agency because he couldn’t make the 53-man roster.

A very short stop with the Falcons

According to the New York Post, the former James Madison star posted a photo of a beer on X with the caption: “There aren’t many beers better than the airport ‘I just got cut from the NFL for the seventh time’ beer… Trust me, you wouldn’t understand.”

Before that, on Friday night, DiNucci tried two passes in a game against Dallas but failed to complete either. A fan asked him on X if he cried about it. His answer was blunt: “Why cry?… I had a five-year NFL career and played on Sunday Night Football. That’s pretty good if you ask me.”

DiNucci began his NFL career with the Dallas Cowboys, starting one game against the Eagles in 2020 after backup Andy Dalton entered concussion protocol. He completed only 21 of 40 passes.

Now, he remains a free agent, waiting to see if any NFL team shows interest. In 2023, he led the Seattle Sea Dragons to the XFL playoffs.
