Andy Reid, head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs, witnessed a fight between two of his rookie players during NFL training camp. Reid spoke about the incident, showing little concern — a sign of his vast experience in the league.

Reid didn’t make a big deal out of it. With so many years in the NFL, he rarely gets impressed or rattled, even when young players clash as they fight for a spot on the team.

He always finds the positive in these situations

The altercation between Ashton Gillotte and offensive tackle Josh Simmons went viral on social media. But Reid only recently addressed it, and he didn’t seem too bothered. After all, he’s used to managing players with strong personalities.

According to Bolavip, Reid explained: “You see this kind of thing with rookies. They do a few different things before we actually put them on the field, where they’re working together in different roles… There’s pride in your rookie class, and how you’re going to establish yourself.”

Reid focused on the competitive nature of both players, stating: “When they compete — and both of them are competitors — they get in there and mix it up a bit. I think it’s all healthy. They’re friends off the field, so it works. But both are trying to earn a starting job and prove themselves.”

Gillotte also saw the fight as a positive: “It’s definitely a good thing. It’s great to have competition on the field — that’s what we want. That’s the only way we improve, by constantly pushing each other.” He added: “Josh and I have had a lot of mutual respect since college. I watched his game; he watched mine. We respect each other. So if we’re on the field and I get the best of him, and he gets the best of me, tensions are going to rise — it was hot out there. Who cares? At the end of the day, we’re teammates. We’re going to keep pushing each other to get better.”
