New York Jets head coach Aaron Glenn remains loyal to his secretive style. Even though all signs point to a decision being made about who will start against the Cleveland Browns, Glenn refuses to confirm it. The coach prefers to keep the mystery alive as a “competitive advantage.”
In the Jets’ thrilling 39-38 victory over the Bengals, Justin Fields completed 21 of 32 passes for 244 yards, one touchdown, and two crucial two-point conversions. His performance broke the losing streak and reignited the locker room’s energy. “It was great to see him play like that,” said guard Joe Tippmann. “He’s ready to win for all of us.” Could he be the Jets’ new quarterback?
Fields wins over the locker room with an inspiring performance
According to the New York Post, Justin Fields has impressed with his recent outings. Tight end Jeremy Ruckert, his former teammate at Ohio State, praised him openly. “He doesn’t waver even when things don’t go his way. He believes in himself and in this team,” Ruckert said.
Aaron Glenn goes back-and-forth with reporters about his reluctance to name the Jets’ starting QB for next week:

Backup quarterback Tyrod Taylor is still recovering from a knee injury. Glenn admitted that he would “practice to some extent” this week, without ruling out his future participation. The media pressed for an answer on who will start, but Glenn stayed firm. “You’ll know who our quarterback is when we take the field in Cleveland,” he replied. Glenn believes revealing the starter too early would not benefit the team.
Inside the locker room, however, there seems to be consensus. Fields has earned his teammates’ trust through leadership and composure. Defensive tackle Harrison Phillips summed it up: “After such a tough week, seeing how he led us was inspiring. He was a huge reason why we won.”
The Jets (1-7) are enduring a tough season, but Fields’ performance has brought hope and energy back to New York. Even though Glenn continues his silent game, his decision seems clear: the young quarterback has revitalized the team and become the new offensive leader of the Jets.
