Many basketball sports analysts highlight Cooper Flagg’s immense talent. They rank him as one of the best college players, which says a lot considering the history of the NCAA and the Duke Blue Devils. However, team coach Jon Scheyer believes the kid has an even better side.

Beyond his on-court skills and physical traits, Scheyer believes Cooper Flagg has much more to offer. The young man’s unique talent is visible in every game he plays. However, in college basketball, it’s about much more than just filling up the stat sheet.

Cooper Flagg in his coach’s spotlight

Or at least that’s what the Duke Blue Devils‘ coach believes. To him, Cooper Flagg can perform well and make good shots. However, he also manages to stand out and differentiate himself from other players.

According to Jon Scheyer, Cooper Flagg is indeed unique and vastly different from other young talents. In his view, the kid doesn’t care about his stats. Instead, he just wants to do his job, an approach Scheyer values and considers mature.

“Cooper Flagg literally doesn’t care about the stats; he cares about winning, and that’s contagious,” said Duke Blue Devils coach Scheyer.

A rising leader

Cooper Flagg is fully aware of his capabilities. He knows he is the team leader and possibly the best player for Duke. However, this is a double-edged sword because it increases the pressure on him. He knows that any mistake will be harshly criticized, and he cannot afford to fail.

Additionally, everyone’s eyes—fans, critics, analysts, and teams—are on Cooper Flagg. They promote him as the possible first overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft. However, this doesn’t seem to matter much to the forward; he’s focused on doing his job well and playing for the love of basketball. This shows that beyond his individual stats, his conviction is in making his team win.
