Given the current state of the Golden State Warriors, it’s possible that Stephen Curry is already thinking about his retirement from the NBA. In fact, the franchise’s cornerstone recently spoke about how he envisions his final days in professional basketball.
A planned exit
According to Bolavip, Stephen Curry appeared on 360 With Speedy on Complex, where host Speedy Morman asked whether he wants to retire on his own terms or let the game decide for him. Curry, now 37, prefers the latter.“I’m more of the latter, I think, as I’m thinking about it now… But I do know I’m taking it in two-year chunks,” Curry said. “You need to give yourself something, some motivation to chase. I’ve talked to guys who extended their prime and, honestly, there are more awkward endings than fairy tale ones. You don’t always get that perfect goodbye.“
It seems Curry wants to stay at least two more seasons. However, the Warriors have struggled in recent years. That shouldn’t define the career of a player as legendary as him. Offseasons are harder than the actual season. For the veteran, NBA offseasons are more challenging than playing games.“Mostly, the offseasons are harder for me than the in-season experience,” he said. “Once you’re in those 82 games, it’s repetition. You know what to expect: practice, off days, you love the games. The games are the most fun. That’s the easy part.“
Even so, his preparation during the offseason has proven effective, as his on-court performance remains at a high level. “If I can get through the offseasons, that’s the marker of how long I can keep pushing… But to answer your question, I just want to be in a position where I can say I gave everything to this game. Hopefully, I’ll have my health and the option to say: ‘I’m good.’ I’m not there yet — not even close,” Curry stated.
A living legend
Curry has played 16 seasons in the NBA. In the 2024-25 season, he appeared in 70 games, shooting 44% from the field. Thanks to his consistent performance, he remains one of the league’s most important offensive weapons.
