Stephen Curry keeps expanding his individual legacy, even as the Golden State Warriors’ collective performance struggles. At 37 years old, the guard delivered another remarkable game, scoring 48 points against the Portland Trail Blazers, surpassing a historic Michael Jordan record. However, the night ended in a 136-131 loss in a tightly contested game in Oregon.

Curry punished the opposing defense with a shooting masterclass. He made 12 of 19 three-pointers and finished 16 of 26 from the field, all in just 35 minutes. With this performance, he surpassed Jordan as the player with the most 40-point games after turning 30, reaching 45 games in that category.

A masterpiece without reward

According to Mundo Deportivo, despite the offensive showcase, the Warriors lacked enough support for their star. Jimmy Butler added 16 points, and Draymond Green contributed 14, but Curry carried almost the entire offensive load. In the final moments, two free throws by Jerami Grant with 13 seconds left sealed the local victory.

Grant led Portland with 35 points, joined by another 35 from Shaedon Sharpe. Team star Israeli Deni Avdija added 26 points in a solid performance. The Blazers remain 11th in the Western Conference with a 10-16 record, showing character despite Chauncey Billups’ suspension for his alleged involvement in NBA betting and fixed game scandals.

On the other side, Golden State shows cracks. With a 13-14 record, the Warriors sit in play-in positions and face another challenging season. Curry performs at MVP level, worthy of a fifth championship, yet the team cannot sustain that ambition collectively.

The contrast is clear. While Curry grows his legacy and breaks records of one of basketball’s greatest, the Warriors waste historic nights without converting them into wins. The question remains: how long can Curry maintain this level without sufficient team support?

The performance against Portland will be remembered as another masterclass from the greatest shooter of all time, but also as a harsh reminder that in the NBA, even records cannot guarantee victories when the team fails to perform.
