Shaquille O’Neal is one of the biggest names in the NBA. The former NBA star has hundreds of accolades, but he also has aspirations beyond the court. O’Neal is a passionate advocate for education. Just as he wants his children to earn university degrees, he also wants to help others achieve this and avoid facing limitations.

In fact, he is about to obtain his fourth university degree in General Studies. However, not everything has been smooth sailing. Shaquille O’Neal confessed that he faced challenges during his classes. Therefore, he wants to ensure that young people don’t encounter the same issues he did.

Shaquille O’Neal Off the Court

The former Lakers star has had a busy agenda. In 2021, the Henry County Sheriff’s Office announced that Shaquille O’Neal would be their Director of Community Relations. Now, the Shaquille O’Neal Boys & Girls Club of Henry County has launched a new initiative. It’s the Read-A-Thon, an activity in which more than 500 children participated. The goal was to ensure that parents and students from 3rd to 8th grade in Henry County attended the event.

Obstacles for the Legend

Academic achievement holds significant weight for Shaquille O’Neal. Last year he stated, “I’m making my announcement here. I’m getting ready to obtain my master’s degree in sports psychology.” The player emphasized that he pursued this degree to have a strong foundation. “When I say something as a sports psychologist, you can’t say I hate it. No, no, no, I have training in this field, that’s right!”

However, the path to education hasn’t been easy for Shaquille O’Neal. Contrary to what one might think, he faced obstacles. It appears he has difficulties, as he himself has expressed. “School is killing me, by the way. Do you know why? It’s bad because I can’t write a blank… like I don’t have a wide vocabulary,” O’Neal said.

New Generations

It seems the player has a limited vocabulary. Therefore, when the presenter, Adam Lefkoe, asked him to use a thesaurus, Shaquille O’Neal misunderstood. He thought he was being suggested to use an artificial intelligence tool. “I don’t want to cheat. I know where you’re going; I don’t want to use Chat GPT,” causing astonishment and confusion.

Shaquille O’Neal is no longer a youngster; he is 53 years old and faces some vocabulary issues. This is a difficulty many people face. Given his limitations, he is focused on ensuring the next generation doesn’t follow this pattern. He wants them to have more opportunities. Hence, he wanted to be part of the literacy initiative with his Boys & Girls Club of Henry County.
