Michael Jordan has always stood out for his unique style, and he recently left former baseball player Andruw Jones completely astonished. On the podcast All the Smoke, Jones recalled a funny and unforgettable moment from the mid-2000s, when he became an athlete sponsored by the Jordan brand.
During a business meeting meant to finalize a deal, Jordan shocked Jones in a humorous way. According to The Sports Rush, Jordan decided to give himself a manicure under the table while discussing business. Jones laughed as he remembered the scene: “I saw his hands down. I didn’t know what he was doing. He was giving himself a manicure under the table.”
A funny day for Jones
For Jones, the meeting was unforgettable, not only because of the deal but also because of Jordan’s relaxed attitude. He was in front of his idol, talking business, while Jordan focused on his personal grooming.
Jones admitted he had admired Jordan since his youth, even before reaching Major League Baseball. His admiration was understandable: Jordan had briefly played baseball during his first NBA retirement in 1993, joining the Birmingham Barons. Although his baseball career was short, Jordan’s influence transcended sports.
The Chicago meeting cemented a professional and personal relationship between Jones and Jordan. Jones considers it one of the most peculiar moments of his career. It was surreal: sitting across from his idol, negotiating money, while MJ calmly manicured his nails.
Since retiring from basketball in 2003, Jordan has built a business empire, including the Jordan brand, the 23XI Racing NASCAR team, and his role as co-owner of the Charlotte Hornets. Even without scoring decisive points on the court, Jordan continues to shine in his own unmistakable way, proving that his influence extends far beyond basketball.
