Michael Jordan and Magic Johnson are two of the NBA’s greatest legends. Everyone has their favorite, but beyond their skills, it’s clear that both are powerful, wealthy, and share aspirations on another continent.

Now, these two legends are betting on a joint project that’s anything but simple. However, both Michael Jordan and Magic Johnson seem determined to make it happen. It’s a significant NBA expansion, and it’s not without its hurdles—even President Donald Trump has voiced his concerns.

Michael Jordan and Magic Johnson’s mega project

Michael Jordan is no stranger to making history and always aims to be first, whether on the court or in business. The six-time NBA champion has teamed up with Magic Johnson to bring an international team to the NBA.

Although he’s determined and has a well-structured plan involving a basketball team based in Luxembourg, Michael Jordan faces challenges. Still, he’s already in motion and has acquired BC Mess.

Michael Jordan and Magic Johnson have officially announced the acquisition of BC Mess, with the intention of turning it into the NBA’s first European franchise starting in the 2027/28 season,” read the announcement post.

This move has been well-received by Michael Jordan’s fans. Even in Luxembourg, people seem thrilled about entering the basketball radar. However, not everything is positive and celebratory.

Opposition to the project

According to reports, President Donald Trump does not support Michael Jordan’s ambitious project. He appears to have concerns about this European expansion. In fact, the president has labeled it a threat to the U.S. trade deficit with Europe. In other words, he’s worried about the economic impact on the nation.

Trump hasn’t just voiced his opposition. The president is also interested in meeting with NBA Commissioner Adam Silver. The idea is to discuss and, according to Essentially Sports, negotiate a “Super Deal” that would somehow benefit the United States. This could be a positive development for Michael Jordan and the rest of the team.

A new chapter

Alongside Michael Jordan, former Chicago Bulls coach Phil Jackson is eager to kick off the new project. “I’ve always wanted to coach a team in a country where the wine is as good as the basketball,” Jackson quipped.

In this regard, the two main investors, Johnson and Michael Jordan, have committed to funding a basketball Superdome in Luxembourg. Reports indicate that the Monnerich community has been stuck with an outdated basketball court for years. Now, thanks to this project, they’ll have something much better.

Additionally, it seems Michael Jordan and Magic Johnson already know where it will be because they found a site that captivated them. Moreover, it’s not just about the Superdome. There’s a plan for a tram system to ensure fans can easily reach the venue to support their team. The legends also have the full backing of the Luxembourg Basketball Federation.

Although there’s still a long way to go before this becomes a reality, even Shaquille O’Neal has offered to be part of the grand opening. So, this is shaping up to be a high-profile endeavor.
