Giannis Antetokounmpo trended again on social media after a viral post claimed he had purchased a house in New York. The message, posted on X, gained hundreds of thousands of impressions in hours and fueled Knicks fans’ imagination.

However, the information about Giannis Antetokounmpo was misleading. The shared document showed an earlier purchase date, quickly deflating the idea that the Greek star was preparing to move to the Big Apple.

An investment, not a residence

Giannis Antetokounmpo did buy property in Brooklyn, but it was an eight-story building with 28 rent-regulated units. Built in 2018, the property cost $14.1 million and is part of his investment portfolio. The move looks more like a financial strategy than a change of residence.

As Sportingnews reported, the building benefits from the 421-a tax program, reinforcing the idea that the purchase was meant to generate cash flow, not to change Antetokounmpo’s home address.

The background of the rumors

Giannis Antetokounmpo is no stranger to speculation about a possible trade. In August, he reportedly told a Bucks teammate that he saw the Knicks as an attractive destination. Milwaukee even asked New York for offers, though none materialized.

Within that context, the Brooklyn purchase reignited those rumors, even though there’s no evidence the player plans to leave Wisconsin anytime soon. For now, nothing is certain.

The future of the Greek Freak

Giannis Antetokounmpo remains the heart of the Bucks, but every move he makes creates noise across the NBA. The Knicks, desperate for a superstar, naturally appear in any rumor involving him.

For now, the reality is that the Greek expanded his real estate portfolio and left fans with more questions than answers. Time will tell if the New York investment was just business or the first step toward a jersey change.
