Before the 2025-26 NBA season, one of the league’s main shows moved to a new network. Fans now wait to see what changes ESPN will bring to the format. However, Charles Barkley spoke out early and shared what we can expect. The move marks a complete transformation of the show. It will be very different from TNT’s style, which thrived on fun, jokes, and good vibes while discussing the NBA.

A drastic shift that affects the audience

According to The Sports Rush, the chemistry between Charles Barkley and Shaquille O’Neal is undeniable. But Barkley admitted this season fans won’t see it. Speaking at Rowan University’s Center for Sports Communication and Social Impact, he explained: “This is one of the things that worries us. On ABC, the best part of the show is the postgame. We usually get 45 minutes to an hour to make sure people have fun… That’s basically going away. On ABC we’ll cut to local affiliates, and on ESPN they’ll want to go straight to SportsCenter.”

For Barkley and many others, the postgame segment has always been the heart of Inside the NBA. Yet, it seems that’s no longer possible. The 76ers legend admitted, “It’s going to change 100%.” That statement reflects the frustration of the show’s crew. ESPN has not revealed whether the team will get airtime for postgame commentary.

Barkley insists this change could hurt the program’s impact on viewers. With only a few minutes—or none at all—to share real opinions about the games, he believes the audience won’t experience the same connection.

Still, fans can continue enjoying the broadcasts led by two NBA legends. Even if it feels different, both former players remain active on screen, and that, according to Barkley, is what matters most.
