Drake and LeBron James have been friends for some time, and all their fans are aware of it. They’ve supported each other through the years and often share special moments, such as family events. The rapper is even close to Bronny James and brought him on stage in the summer of 2023.
However, when LeBron showed appreciation for a Kendrick Lamar song—Drake’s archrival—the rapper began criticizing him through a series of freestyles in his new album What Did I Miss?. This sparked a heated debate in the media and on social media, with some supporting LeBron and others siding with Drake. One of LeBron’s defenders was Brandon Jennings.
A rivalry born in 2024
According to Firstsportz, Jennings gave one of the most notable opinions on the Drake-LeBron split, stating that the rapper used to celebrate when the Lakers lost:
“They were celebrating—Drake and them were celebrating with KD and Steph when they were yelling during the Finals. So, what’s the difference? And that was his biggest moment too. So, how do you think he would feel? It’s petty, but I’m just saying, if I’m losing in the Finals, and these are my rivals, and y’all are out here ki-ki, laughing and celebrating—which is fine—but okay, whoa. It’s not even your moment, the song was just about you.”

In What Did I Miss?, Drake says: “I saw my brother at the Pop Out with them, but I’ve been riding with a gang since ‘Headlines,’” referring to LeBron attending Kendrick Lamar’s Juneteenth Pop Out concert in 2024. The song LeBron enjoyed the most was “Not Like Us,” which directly targets Drake. That was what triggered the rapper’s anger.
At the Wireless Festival in London (July 11–13, 2025), Drake attacked LeBron again, altering one of his lyrics to say: “How do I go from 6 to 23, but not LeBron?” Still, this didn’t seem to affect James, who was later seen enjoying Not Like Us and dancing with his wife at a party.
