John Cena has made it official—he’s retiring from WWE. The announcement came during the Money in the Bank event in Toronto, leaving fans with a mix of nostalgia and excitement. The good news? John Cena plans to go out with a bang, delivering a farewell tour as intense as the legacy he built.

According to British outlet The Sun, John Cena will make 36 appearances throughout 2025, ending with his final match at WrestleMania 2026. While his last opponent hasn’t been confirmed, rumors suggest the match will take place in Boston—close to his hometown of West Newbury, Massachusetts. A symbolic closing chapter for a career that began in 2001 and helped redefine sports entertainment.

From debut to sensation

John Cena made his WWE debut in 2001 with a bold attitude and a style that quickly won over the crowd. His evolution from the “Doctor of Thuganomics” to the cap-and-t-shirt hero with the “Never Give Up” mantra defined an entire era of professional wrestling. With 16 world championships under his belt, John Cena tied Ric Flair’s record and cemented his place as one of the most decorated wrestlers in history.

But John Cena’s impact goes far beyond the ring. He’s also been a global ambassador for WWE in social causes—especially through the Make-A-Wish Foundation, where he’s granted over 650 wishes, more than any other celebrity. His leap into Hollywood has been equally impressive, with roles in franchises like Fast & Furious, Suicide Squad, and the Peacemaker series, proving his charisma isn’t limited to the squared circle.

Confirmed stops on the farewell tour

John Cena’s retirement tour already has several confirmed stops, including major events like Royal Rumble, Elimination Chamber, Wrestlepalooza, and Survivor Series. He’ll also appear at the highly anticipated Clash in Paris on August 31, where he’ll face off against YouTuber Logan Paul. His final scheduled appearance is set for Saturday Night’s Main Event on December 13.

Meanwhile, WWE is undergoing a major shift in its broadcast strategy. Starting in September, premium live events will move to ESPN, marking the end of an era for Peacock, which previously hosted WWE’s biggest shows. Peacock will continue airing Saturday night’s Main Event, which used to run on NBC.

Strategic shift

This strategic change in content distribution aligns with Cena’s retirement. Signaling that WWE is closing a major chapter in its history. John Cena, for his part, is more than just a wrestler. His farewell tour isn’t just a string of matches—it’s a global celebration. WWE has confirmed that John Cena will appear at international events, including stops in France, Ireland, Australia, and Canada. Wrestlers like Randy Orton, Cody Rhodes, and Kevin Owens have already expressed interest in facing him one last time.

No final opponent yet

Cena’s decision to retire wasn’t spontaneous. In previous interviews, he admitted his body doesn’t respond the way it used to. He wants to end his in-ring career on his own terms. “I don’t want my last match to be an accident”. John Cena said during a recent appearance on The Pat McAfee Show. Making it clear that this farewell will be planned and celebrated.

This tour isn’t just a goodbye. It’s a tribute to the character, the man, and the phenomenon that is John Cena. WWE, fully aware of the emotional weight of the moment, is preparing a send-off worthy of his legacy. And while there’s still no final opponent confirmed, fans are already counting down the days to see the man who turned “You Can’t See Me” into a global brand. One last time.
