Politics is everywhere, and sports are no exception. Athletes openly express their views, often causing controversy. That’s exactly what happened with boxer Floyd Mayweather, who stirred up debate with a recent political statement.
Even though the five-division former champion is no stranger to controversy, this time, he provoked the reaction of Khabib’s team manager, Ali Abdelaziz, who called him a hypocrite after an important comment about Donald Trump in an interview with Fox Business.
Mayweather upset Abdelaziz
Floyd Mayweather, who usually keeps his political opinions private, spoke about Trump in a way that shocked audiences during a Fox interview. “Pretty Boy… the best president the United States of America has ever had… Great business, great businessman, and that’s what it’s all about. Trump has done an amazing job… He is the best president in my eyes, the best president we’ve had.”

While many supported his comments on the U.S. president, Ali Abdelaziz strongly disagreed. In fact, he accused Mayweather of being a hypocrite, writing: “This guy is so fake. He was a huge supporter of Obama and Biden, and now he’s talking about President Trump. You can’t play both sides. This guy is fake and a fraud,” he wrote.
Abdelaziz’s criticism was based on Mayweather’s past support for Obama, as he had publicly aligned with him multiple times. In fact, he once stated: “I support President Obama, and I support gay marriage. I am an American citizen, and I believe people should live their lives however they want.”
In 2012, Mayweather told HBO: “People want to know how much power Floyd Mayweather has? I can guarantee this: I’ll show you how much power I have. If I could fight Manny Pacquiao, I would let Obama walk me into the ring with my belt. Can I make it happen?”
So, What Happened?
It seems there has been a shift in Floyd Mayweather’s political loyalty, which is entirely normal. Since 2017, it has become evident that the boxing legend has supported Trump for years. However, he had never openly spoken about his stance on politicians—until now.
