Angel Reese is redefining what it means to be a professional athlete. After her second year in the WNBA, the Chicago Sky star decided to step away from basketball temporarily. She didn’t take this break to rest. Instead, she wants to focus on personal projects that strengthen her public image.
Reese led the Sky in points (14.7) and rebounds (12.6) in 2025, proving her impact on the court. But off it, she shows a clear vision for her future. She launched her podcast, Unapologetically Angel, where she discusses social, sports, and personal topics. She’s also moving into fashion and entertainment.
A multifaceted vision
According to Athlonsports, Reese became the first professional athlete to walk the runway for Victoria’s Secret in October. She also appeared in the Netflix film A House of Dynamite. Her presence at major fashion events keeps growing, revealing versatility few athletes possess. “Excited to be part of the first HBCU Awarefest in ATL!” Reese wrote when announcing her participation in the festival.

The HBCU Aware Fest will take place on March 26, 2026, at State Farm Arena in Atlanta. Reese will share the stage with figures like Chris Paul and Ryan Clark. The event will also feature artists such as John Legend, GloRilla, and Coco Jones. Its mission is to support the Student Freedom Initiative, an organization tackling America’s 1.7-trillion-dollar student debt crisis.
Reese hasn’t announced a return date to the WNBA. For now, she’s focused on strengthening her brand and supporting social causes. Her decision reflects a new era in women’s sports, where athletes don’t just compete—they lead cultural movements. Reese stands as a prime example.
Her break from basketball doesn’t signal retirement. It’s a strategic pause that could elevate her long-term career. Meanwhile, her influence continues to grow. Angel Reese doesn’t just play—she inspires.
