Austin Reaves is experiencing the best stretch of his career with the Los Angeles Lakers. In the absence of Luka Doncic and LeBron James due to injuries, the guard took charge of the offense and delivered memorable performances. He scored 51 points against the Kings and 41 versus the Trail Blazers, along with a game-winning shot against the Timberwolves.

His impact has sparked debate both inside and outside the locker room. Many fans and analysts wonder if Reaves can maintain that level once the stars return. Questions also linger about whether he’ll receive a maximum contract extension worth millions.

According to The Sports Rush, NBA analyst Marc Stein believes Reaves will remain a Laker. On his All NBA podcast, he compared Reaves to Jalen Brunson, who thrived alongside Luka Doncic in Dallas before shining in New York. “He [Reaves] looks great with Luka. You can see it—they get along really well. There’s clearly a friendship blossoming there,” Stein said.

A vital piece in the Lakers’ system

Unlike Brunson, Reaves already enjoys the affection and respect of the Lakers organization. He’s a self-made player who wasn’t drafted, earning his spot through hard work and consistency. His chemistry with Doncic and his energy on both ends of the floor have made him an indispensable piece for head coach Darvin Ham.

Stein added, “The Lakers would obviously love to see this continue, and there’s no reason right now for Austin Reaves to look elsewhere.”

At just 26 years old, Reaves has shown maturity and composure beyond his years. His growth has positioned him as one of the most promising long-term projects in the NBA. His ambition and commitment to the franchise could soon earn him a lucrative contract extension.

As the stars regain rhythm, Reaves keeps building his case to be part of the Lakers’ golden future. His journey is a reminder that talent and perseverance can break through any label.
