Houston Rockets rising star Amen Thompson didn’t hold back in praising Kevin Durant. This after learning that the superstar accepted a 30-million-dollar pay cut to help build a more competitive roster in Houston.

Durant’s decision shocked the NBA world.  Immediately elevated his status in the locker room as a leader committed to the franchise’s future.

A locker room inspired by Durant’s arrival

According to Firstsportz, Houston stunned the league last season by finishing second in the Western Conference.  Powered by its young core and remarkable growth on both ends of the floor. Thompson and the rest of the locker room never imagined that their progress would attract a star of Durant’s caliber.

The former Phoenix Suns forward had already made it clear that Houston.  Was one of the destinations where he wanted to continue his career. His wish led to a historic seven-team trade — the largest in NBA history. Now, the 15-time All-Star is set to guide a roster loaded with talent, energy and ambition.

Durant understands that his window to compete for championships is shrinking. That is why he chose to send an unmistakable message to the organization, showing he is willing to put the project above personal financial benefit. His new contract extension with the Rockets came alongside the news of the massive salary cut.

After practice, reporters asked Amen Thompson about the deal. The young guard admitted he didn’t know the details, but once informed of Durant’s sacrifice, he reacted instantly: “Generous guy.” Thompson added that Durant is “a great person” and that his presence alone gives confidence to the younger players.

The mission is clear: Houston wants to take the next big step, and Durant is determined to lead the way. His financial gesture, combined with his experience and leadership, could be the first major step toward making the Rockets a true powerhouse in the West once again.
