Joel Embiid returned to the court after nearly eight months away, showcasing a blend of talent and defiant attitude. The Philadelphia 76ers center came back after left knee surgery and not only shined in a 126-110 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves, but also took the opportunity to criticize the media.
“I see all these guys… I’m here to help. According to many of their colleagues [in the media], I’m not even a top-100 player in this league. So, I guess I just have to fit in and see how I can help the team win,” Embiid said.
A return with a message
According to New York Post, in recent months, the former MVP dropped in several media rankings. ESPN placed him at 47, The Ringer at 54, and Bleacher Report at 26. Embiid believes these numbers don’t reflect his true level. In his comeback, he proved he remains a dominant force, recording 14 points, 7 rebounds, 8 assists, and 3 steals, including 5-for-10 from the field.

Looking leaner and in great shape, the Cameroonian star confirmed he is in a good mental and physical place. “I’m happy to play again. When you can’t, it’s tough. But today, I focused on being on the court, helping to win, and enjoying basketball,” he said.
Coach Nick Nurse praised Embiid’s performance and leadership in the locker room. “I think he moved well, played well, shot well, passed well. I didn’t see too many negatives out there,” Nurse commented.
With Embiid back and focused, the 76ers aim to leave behind last season’s nightmare (24-58). His message was clear: numbers may drop, criticism may come, but his ambition to return to the top remains stronger than ever.
