This week, the coach made headlines again—not for a play, but for a penalty. The Big 12 fined the program $50,000 after offensive chants from home fans during the loss to BYU. The sanction raised alarms and pushed Sanders to speak out with a clear message: “That’s not who we are.”

Outlets like EssentiallySports reported Deion Sanders’ public apology, in which he condemned the behavior of certain students. He attributed the incident to “possibly drunk young people” who don’t reflect the values of the team or the university. “BYU, we love you, we respect you, and we support you,” said the coach, aiming to close the chapter with dignity.

Controversy still burning

While the scandal fades outside the stadium, inside the locker room the fire is still lit. Deion Sanders issued an emotional challenge to his players—especially those from Texas—before the matchup against TCU. “You’re going to play in front of your families, your friends, your people. What does that mean to you?” he asked. The answer came quickly: “Everything.” But Sanders wasn’t satisfied. “What does ‘everything’ mean? If it means something, you’ve got to show it in every practice, in every snap.”
