Former NFL star Robert Griffin III shocked his followers on Friday when he revealed on social media that he had been in a serious car accident with his wife and children. The FOX sports commentator posted several images showing the severe damage to their vehicle.

Griffin, 35, was in Fort Worth ahead of Saturday’s TCU–Colorado game. It remains unclear whether he will still cover the broadcast. He and his family were traveling in a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter that crashed dramatically on a local highway.

A frightening ordeal for the Griffin family

According to the New York Post, Griffin wrote on social media: “Just got in the worst car accident of our lives with my wife and kids in Fort Worth, Texas… Terrifying crash, bounced off the highway divider multiple times, blew out both front tires. Thankful to God that my wife and kids are safe.

His wife, Grete Griffin, also shared, “We had the worst accident of our lives, but thankfully our kids are safe and okay. That’s all that matters. Robert and I are a bit banged up, but nothing a little love can’t fix!”

Before the crash, Grete had posted an Instagram Story showing Griffin inside the Sprinter, expressing how excited she was to be traveling with her family. Griffin was not driving at the time, and three other vehicles were reportedly involved in the accident.

Grete later shared a photo of one of their daughters inside an ambulance, writing: “Checked everyone in the ambulance and the kids are safe and healthy… I hit my head, so I’m getting a CT scan, and they’re checking Robert’s back too.
