Patrick Mahomes didn’t need a fireworks-filled night to make history. One five-yard pass to Tyquan Thornton in the third quarter was enough for the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback to reach his 294th combined touchdown across regular season and playoffs. That throw pushed him past Peyton Manning’s previous mark of 293. Mahomes now holds the record for the most passing touchdowns in a player’s first nine years in the league.

The 22–19 win over the New York Giants wasn’t flashy, but it was essential. The Chiefs had dropped two straight, and a 0–3 start would’ve triggered panic across Kansas City. Patrick Mahomes completed 22 of 37 passes for 224 yards and just one touchdown. But that single score flipped the narrative. According to Marca, Manning’s record had stood since 2006, when the Hall of Famer wrapped up his run with the Colts. Mahomes broke it with fewer games and under more pressure.

Consistent dominance

What’s interesting is that in regular season stats alone, Patrick Mahomes still trails Manning (275), Russell Wilson (267), and Dan Marino (266). But his postseason consistency has been so strong that it pushed him to the top overall. In other words, Mahomes doesn’t just shine in September—he delivers when it matters most.

The Chiefs’ defense also stepped up. Russell Wilson, now leading the Giants, was held to just 160 yards and threw two interceptions. Meanwhile, Patrick Mahomes stayed composed, avoided mistakes, and reminded everyone that his leadership isn’t about inflated stats—it’s about clutch moments.

Next stop: Baltimore

Next up is Baltimore, where the Chiefs will face Lamar Jackson and the Ravens in Week 4. It’s a matchup that promises to test not just skill, but grit. Patrick Mahomes heads into it with the record in hand, but also with the urgency to stabilize a season that started with questions.
