Floyd Mayweather has never been a conventional fighter. At 48, with a flawless 50-0 record and a fortune that keeps him atop the sport without throwing a single punch, the former world champion keeps flirting with the idea of coming back. Not as a showman—but as a professional.

In a recent interview with TMZ Sports, cited by Marca, Floyd Mayweather admitted that “there are conversations” and that “it’s possible” he’ll return to the ring for an official bout. This wouldn’t be another exhibition against an influencer or a celebrity. This time, the undefeated boxer might be willing to put his legacy on the line—that 50-0 record he protects like a museum piece.

Media-driven exhibitions

Since his last professional fight in 2017 against Conor McGregor, Floyd Mayweather has stayed in the boxing spotlight through high-profile exhibitions. He faced Logan Paul, John Gotti III, and other opponents that kept him relevant without risking his record. But now, with the announcement of his upcoming exhibition against Mike Tyson in 2026, the champion seems to be testing more than just his conditioning. He’s also gauging public interest.

The “Legend vs. Legend” event doesn’t have a confirmed date yet, but it’s already generating global buzz. Floyd Mayweather said he’s not training at the moment, but promised the show will be “exciting for the fans.” And if there’s one thing Floyd knows how to do, it’s sell excitement. His ability to turn every appearance into an event keeps him relevant—even in an era where younger names dominate the fight cards.

A lot would be at stake

What’s at stake isn’t just his record. It’s the narrative Floyd Mayweather has built over more than two decades. Returning as a professional would mean facing a legitimate opponent, in a sanctioned fight, with everything that entails. There are plenty of questions and few answers. But the biggest one remains: is he really willing to risk it all for one more fight? For now, there’s no confirmation. But there’s no closure either.

Floyd Mayweather remains the architect of his own legend. And as long as the door to a professional comeback stays slightly ajar, the boxing world will keep watching. Fans will keep waiting—and speculating—about the return of “Money.”
