Mocking the NFL?
Skip Bayless didn’t hold back. On his show, he accused Tom Brady of “mocking the NFL and FOX.” He also reminded viewers that the ex-quarterback signed a $375 million, 10-year deal with the network, and later bought a 5% stake in the Raiders. “We saw him in the booth with a headset like he was part of the coaching staff. It’s disrespectful to everyone involved,” said the analyst, visibly frustrated.
The concern isn’t trivial. Tom Brady, as a broadcaster, has access to sensitive information from the teams he covers. If he’s also involved in the Raiders’ strategic planning, where does impartiality stand? Can an analyst also be an operator? And what about rival teams who trust him during pregame interviews?
Serious questions ahead
The NFL, already facing scrutiny over its ties to sports betting through ESPN Bet, now has to deal with a figure who goes far beyond the typical retired player. Tom Brady isn’t just a legend—he’s a power player with influence across multiple fronts. And according to Skip Bayless, that should force a decision: either stay with FOX or fully commit to the Raiders.
What’s clear is that Tom Brady keeps redefining what retirement means. He’s no longer throwing touchdowns, but he’s still moving pieces. And in this game, the line between commentator and strategist is getting harder to draw.
