The NCAA season has been tough for the Colorado Buffaloes. On Saturday, the team lost its first Big 12 game, 36-20 against Houston. Despite the setback, coach Deion Sanders received strong backing from Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, who sees him as an excellent leader.
The heavy publicity surrounding Deion “Coach Prime” Sanders during the offseason may have raised fan expectations too high. Now, many wonder if the Buffaloes can deliver a standout performance like last year.
A lasting endorsement
According to The Sports Rush, Dwayne Johnson remains a loyal supporter of Deion Sanders, even during difficult times. Instead of criticizing, the actor and former wrestling superstar praised Sanders for his major impact on college football.
“I’m very proud of Coach Prime, the staff, the players, but I’m most proud of Coach Prime because what he’s trying to do, what he’s doing, doesn’t follow a plan… He’s creating his own plan. And that’s what makes it so special—for this city, for these players, and for college football,” Johnson said.
Sanders has broken traditional molds in college football. He’s charismatic and never throws his players under the bus. Even after Saturday’s frustrating game, he stayed composed and admitted: “I’m speechless… It wasn’t good. Not good at all. I take full responsibility for the nonsense we tried to call football. We must improve in every phase. We must prepare our kids better.”
Looking ahead, expectations remain modest. Sanders faces a tough schedule and lost last season’s top stars to the NFL draft.
Still, none of this shakes Coach Prime’s mentality. He stays committed to his players and the program, knowing the season is just beginning and there’s still time to bounce back.
