Angel Reese delivered a strong statement about her intention to start the new WNBA season with the Chicago Sky. However, she wants to do so only if the franchise improves its roster.

The team had a disappointing 2025 season under first-year head coach Tyler Marsh, finishing with a 9-30 record. Because of that, Reese openly shared her expectations for the future in an interview with the Tribune.

An unexpected outcome for the Sky star

According to Athlonsports, Reese showed frustration with the team’s performance. She didn’t directly criticize her teammates, but she emphasized the need to improve the roster.

“I’m very vocal about what we need and what I want… I’d like to be here for my career, but if things don’t work out, obviously I might have to move in a different direction and do what’s best for me. But while I’m here, I’ll try to keep an open mind about what I have and maximize it as much as I can.”

With this, the Sky star made it clear that if she doesn’t see progress in the franchise, she will move to another team. Reese was the seventh overall pick in the 2024 draft and intended to give her best to the Sky, but the results have been far from favorable.

In the 2025 draft, Chicago added Ajsa Sivka, Hailey Van Lith, Maddy Westbeld, and Aicha Coulibaly to the roster. However, Sivka chose not to join the Sky for the 2025 season, deciding instead to remain with her national team.

Van Lith has played only 29 games, averaging 12.4 minutes per game, Westbeld has been out since August 15, and Coulibaly is recovering from ACL surgery. As a result, Reese has lacked strong support, and the team’s performance has suffered.
