The first game of the NFL season is near, but Micah Parsons isn’t ready to make his debut with the Green Bay Packers. On Monday, the team spotted him wearing pads at the facility, but it’s unclear if he’ll step on the field against the Detroit Lions in the opener.

This situation worries both his fans and his teammates. His state of health does not seem optimal for such a long-awaited confrontation. So what options does Parsons have?

Back injury continues to worry Parsons

According to Firstsportz, Parsons frequently visited doctors to relieve his back pain. Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs confirmed this after seeing him lying on a bench during the preseason.

Shortly after, Jerry Jones traded him to the Packers. Now, ESPN’s Adam Schefter has reported the worst news for Packers fans: Parsons is still suffering from back problems, putting his debut in the 2025-26 season at risk.

The All-Star suffered a lumbar sprain between the L4 and L5 vertebrae, which has caused him long-term discomfort. Sources suggest he could receive an epidural injection before the game if doctors approve it.

Sports medicine specialist Jesse Morse explained that back in Dallas, team doctors prescribed a five-day plan of anti-inflammatory corticosteroid prednisone and enrolled Parsons in a physical therapy program.

For Morse, Parsons’ back stiffness is due to the force he exerts when he runs quarterbacks. To get better, the doctor considers a stem cell treatment to be highly effective, which could help the 26-year-old recover faster.
