The NFL is gearing up for its 2025 season. While the spotlight shines on flashy rookies and massive contracts, two familiar names are quietly chasing a milestone that only 12 quarterbacks have ever reached: 50,000 career passing yards. Joe Flacco and Russell Wilson, now confirmed as starters for the Cleveland Browns and New York Giants respectively, are inching closer to a mark that defines longevity and consistency.

According to TheSportsRush, Russell Wilson enters his 14th professional season with 46,135 passing yards, placing him 17th on the all-time list. He needs 3,865 more yards to join the 50K club—a number that seems within reach if he maintains his current average of 221.6 yards per game. With Malik Nabers, the No. 6 overall pick in the 2025 Draft, now his go-to receiver, the former Seahawk has the weapons to shine again—provided he can move past the inconsistencies that plagued his years in Denver. Joe Flacco, meanwhile, faces a steeper climb.

Two veterans, one shared goal

At 40 years old, Joe Flacco has racked up 45,697 passing yards, but still needs 4,303 to hit the same milestone. Unlike Russell Wilson, Flacco has only surpassed 4,000 yards once in his career—back in 2016. His current receiving corps includes Jerry Jeudy, Cedric Tillman, and rookie Jamari Thrash. But the real challenge might be time itself. With young quarterbacks Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders also on the Browns’ roster, Flacco isn’t just battling defenses—he’s up against the inevitable generational shift.

What makes this story even more compelling is the context. The NFL increasingly favors youth and mobility, making it rare to see two veteran quarterbacks still holding starting roles. Russell Wilson, despite his ups and downs, remains a media figure and locker room leader. Joe Flacco, on the other hand, is the embodiment of resilience—a player who, after years of setbacks and team changes, continues to find his way onto the field.

A race against time

Both Joe Flacco and Russell Wilson are racing against time, against the stats, and against the narratives that once wrote them off. And while Wilson’s path seems more straightforward, the fact that Flacco is still in the conversation is worthy of recognition.
