Anthony Edwards is taking over the NBA with his explosive game. But he’s also making waves in the sneaker world. The 24-year-old Minnesota Timberwolves guard is currently on a promotional tour in China for his new Adidas AE2 sneakers. As usual, Anthony Edwards is doing it with style, swagger, and a healthy dose of sarcasm.

During his “Believe That” tour, Anthony Edwards was asked how he feels when other players wear Adidas sneakers against him. His response, quoted by The SportsRush, was as bold as it was hilarious: “I only like it when they wear the AE. If they’re wearing Harden or Donovan Mitchell’s… I’m not that excited.” He even recalled telling his teammate Terrence Shannon Jr. that he was wearing “those trash sneakers,” referring to other Adidas models.

Positioning the top sneaker

While Edwards’ comments might sound harsh, he made it clear he was joking. It’s not the first time he’s thrown playful shade at other players’ footwear. Back in 2023, during the launch of his AE1s, Edwards took shots at sneakers worn by Luka Doncic, Ja Morant, and LeBron James. But behind the humor, there’s a clear strategy. Anthony Edwards is positioning his line as a standout in the sneaker universe.

The AE2s, officially unveiled in Shanghai before more than 2,000 fans, mark a strong step in Edwards’ rise as a commercial figure. The design features glossy synthetic panels and lightweight mesh. It’s been praised for its comfort and look, even winning “Sneaker of the Year,” according to Anthony Edwards himself.

High-caliber results

The tour also included cultural events like MOJO Fest, where Anthony Edwards teamed up with Edison Chen to present a special “Blue Flame” edition of the AE1s. All of this reinforces Edwards’ image as an athlete who understands the importance of connecting with fans beyond the hardwood.

Adidas, for its part, seems thrilled with the outcome. Anthony Edwards represents not just youth and talent, but authenticity and charisma. In the NBA, sneakers are part of the game’s visual language. And now, “Ant Man” is crafting his own dialect.

The AE2s are expected to hit global markets this fall, just as Anthony Edwards gears up for his return to the court. His message is clear. it’s not enough to play well—you’ve got to do it with style… And with the right sneakers.
