Malik Beasley went through a complex legal process. His name appeared in a federal investigation involving players who allegedly helped gamblers. That case cost him his marriage, and the Detroit Pistons refused to offer him a new contract. In just a few months, he lost something very valuable.

However, the 28-year-old guard insisted he was never involved in the scandal. Despite this, many critics, analysts, and podcasts pointed out questionable plays. Now, the New York Knicks seem interested in him.

A case that almost ended his NBA career

According to Firstsportz, the betting investigations started with former Toronto Raptors player Jontay Porter, who helped gamblers by providing inside information. Investigators also proved that his on-court actions aligned with those bets.

During the process, authorities linked Beasley’s name to the case. They discovered that the prop bets placed under his name appeared suspicious, which led to a thorough federal investigation.

After six weeks, Beasley was cleared of any wrongdoing. Authorities dropped his case, which means he can now enter free agency with multiple NBA options ahead.

Reporter Ian Begley wrote on X: “The Knicks were among the teams that did background work on Malik Beasley’s situation, evaluating the likelihood of a suspension in 2025-26 for the free agent. ESPN reports that Beasley is no longer under federal investigation. NYK currently has veterans to offer in free agency.”

Former NBA star Gilbert Arenas also defended Beasley, saying: “You cleared your name. They need to apologize. You weren’t throwing games, you were just playing out an 82-game season. Now you need to make them pay.”

Arenas also mentioned the possibility of Beasley joining the Los Angeles Lakers, since his shooting skills could fill a current need. However, it remains uncertain whether the Lakers can afford the former Florida State standout.
