On August 9, Dallas Cowboys WR CeeDee Lamb collided with a referee during a game against the Rams. The incident didn’t go unnoticed, and the NFL delivered its verdict.
According to Essentiallysports, Adam Schefter reported the league’s decision: Lamb risked a $14,491 fine under NFL rules.
An unexpected collision
CeeDee Lamb apparently didn’t see it coming. That day, he moved toward the white sideline. Suddenly, side judge Anthony Jeffries hit him hard from behind, and both fell to the ground. Lamb’s celebration was cut short, but fortunately, neither suffered injuries.
At first, officials penalized the Cowboys and Lamb for unsportsmanlike conduct, adding the threat of a five-figure fine. However, “the NFL determined that Cowboys WR CeeDee Lamb will not be fined for the penalty and the contact he received last week against the Rams,” Schefter posted on X, citing a league official.

This rare collision may have saved Lamb from paying nearly $15,000. Cowboys HC Brian Schottenheimer commented: “I hope the guy is okay. They said the ref is fine, but we have to be better than that. CeeDee knows better. We know that’s not him.” After getting up, Lamb laughed about the strange situation with his teammates.
Despite the scare, the team’s biggest concern was Lamb’s health. He just recovered from last season’s injury, and the Cowboys don’t want him sidelined again. In the end, he avoided a big fine and probably learned to celebrate more cautiously on the field.
