Deion Sanders, head coach of the Colorado Buffaloes, began his first NCAA season without his sons Shedeur and Shilo. For the first time, “Prime” does not have both on the roster, as Shedeur is in NFL training camp with the Cleveland Browns.
In addition, Travis Hunter will not play for the Buffs this season because he is training with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Sanders is recovering from surgery to remove his bladder after being diagnosed with a cancerous tumor. Despite this, he is ready to face the 2025–26 season challenge.

Sanders praised his coaching staff for keeping the team running during his absence. His health condition forced him away from the sport. He said: “They gave me tremendous comfort… I never had to call 100 times to check on the house because I felt the house would be fine. That’s why you hire the right people, so you don’t have to check day and night. They did a great job, especially in strength and conditioning.”
Despite the absence of Shedeur and Hunter, Sanders aims to secure victory in the next season. “The next phase is that we will win differently, but we will win… I don’t know if it will be a Hail Mary at the end of the game, but it will be hell during the game because we want to be physical and we want to run the ball.”
