Before the WNBA All-Star Game, Kelsey Plum of the Los Angeles Sparks appeared in the media and called out Caitlin Clark of the Indiana Fever, urging her to speak up about the protest against the WNBA staged by the players during the event. In response, Clark didn’t hesitate to answer.

Both basketball stars exchanged direct messages on social media following the incident. Prior to the game, Clark and other players met and agreed to wear shirts that read “Pay us what we’re owed,” as part of their ongoing fight for better salaries in the league.

A dilemma that continues in the WNBA

According to The Sun, many of Clark’s teammates weren’t present at that meeting. However, all the Indiana All-Star players wore the protest shirts during warmups.

Plum commented: “It was a really powerful moment… As players, we didn’t know that was going to happen. It was a total surprise. The shirts were decided this morning… Not to call anyone out, but no one from Team Clark was really involved in that.”

Sabrina Ionescu from the New York Liberty, who was also at the press conference, disagreed and interjected sarcastically: “That really needed to be mentioned.”

Following Plum’s remarks, Caitlin Clark fired back in the comments of an Instagram post related to the All-Star Game. One of the pictures showed Plum posing next to a Nike logo.

Clark wrote: “Thanks for the Nike ad.” The comment sparked a wave of support from WNBA fans, who reacted with messages like:

  • Kelsey Plum is unbearable,”

  • For a league that ‘doesn’t need Caitlin Clark,’ they sure talk about her a lot,”

  • Caitlin Clark is leaving the WNBA and these haters behind.
