LeBron James always makes headlines. Now, strong rumors are circulating about the future of the Los Angeles Lakers star. Many wonder what he’ll do for the upcoming 2025-26 season. Will he sign with another franchise or stay with the Lakers? That unanswered question has fans jumping to conclusions.
One of James’ current options is to sign a $52.6 million deal with California. However, his loyalty to the Lakers might keep him from joining another NBA team.
What will LeBron do this season?
According to a report by Bolavip, journalist Brett Siegel attempted to clarify the situation surrounding the Lakers’ forward. “Many in the league are starting to connect the dots that James might not sign another deal with the Lakers—because he might not sign any contract at all,” he explained.

“Everyone knows retirement is on the horizon for LeBron, and multiple agents, scouts, and executives from rival teams told ClutchPoints they believe James is preparing to announce his retirement after the 2025-26 season,” he added.
LeBron James may be ready to end his professional basketball career. He would leave the NBA as a legendary All-Star, boasting an average of 20 points per game.
“It’s clear he’s unhappy with how things are going with the Lakers, and this could be the perfect time for him to walk away on his own terms,” Siegel noted. Currently, the Lakers’ management is focused on building a roster around Luka Dončić, whom they acquired in early 2025.
After 40 active seasons, retiring from the NBA won’t be an easy choice for James. Before stepping away, he must find a new passion to fill the void left by the franchise—especially now that his son, Bronny James, has recently joined the team.
