The Formula 1 British Grand Prix races this weekend revealed Max Verstappen’s possible stance regarding the long-standing commitment he has maintained with Red Bull. Several signs suggest the end of this era may be near.

The Dutch driver’s shift in attitude and tone indicates a potential exit. He no longer comments on his future, and according to information from Sportskeeda, Red Bull is reportedly in talks with Toto Wolff, head of Mercedes, who is eager to bring Verstappen into his team.

First sign: a shift in focus

Red Bull’s focus is changing. Verstappen is the team’s sole standout in F1, and that hasn’t yielded the best results. While he has won multiple world championships since 2021, relying on a single star isn’t sustainable. Moreover, Verstappen seems to have lost his unwavering trust in the team’s setup, which could make a Mercedes offer more appealing—and Red Bull should respect that decision.

Second sign: team stagnation

Since 2019, Verstappen has been the undisputed leader at Red Bull. The team has concentrated all its resources and efforts on him, which has negatively affected other drivers like Alex Albon, Pierre Gasly, and Sergio Pérez, who were discarded for underperformance. This one-man structure must change.

Third sign: lack of preparation

Another major signal that Verstappen might leave Red Bull is Christian Horner’s overconfidence regarding the driver’s future with the team in 2026. He seems convinced of Verstappen’s loyalty and thus isn’t steering the team in a new direction. But if Verstappen leaves, the team will be left vulnerable, as the car is tailored to his driving style. Very few drivers in F1 can handle the RB21 effectively.
