The Golden State Warriors are actively searching for a reliable shooting guard to pair with Stephen Curry this season. Their main concern? Buddy Hield’s inconsistency. His performance has not met expectations, leaving the team in need of a stronger backcourt presence. Who could be the best option to fill this role?

Hield started the season strong, making 50% of his three-pointers in October and over 40% in November. However, his performance declined in December, raising doubts about his reliability. Many NBA fans now question whether replacing Klay Thompson with Hield was the right move. Thompson, a four-time NBA champion, played a crucial role in the Warriors’ past success. Did the team make a mistake by letting him go?

The Warriors are concerned about Hield’s performance

If Hield fails to regain consistency, the Warriors may attempt to bring back Klay Thompson, who is currently playing for the Dallas Mavericks. Reuniting Thompson with Curry could significantly strengthen the Warriors as they push for the playoffs.

Peter O’Keefe of Blue Man Hoop commented on the situation: “A Warriors return for Thompson seems unlikely at this stage, but a trade isn’t impossible given the uncertainty the Mavericks are facing.”

O’Keefe also pointed out: “Thompson could still contribute to this Warriors team, which is now fighting for a playoff spot. It’s easy to see him as an upgrade over Hield, especially since he’s shooting 40.2% from three on 7.8 attempts per game with Dallas this season.”

Thompson remains a reliable option

Despite Dallas struggling this season, Thompson has maintained his performance. He is averaging 14.1 points per game while shooting 40.2% from three and 41.6% overall.

With the playoffs approaching, the Warriors need a proven champion alongside Curry. Thompson remains the most viable option to fill that role and restore the team’s championship aspirations.
