The Angel Reese drama continues to make waves, hitting the headlines once again after one of Caitlin Clark’s former teammates decided to break her silence. In an effort to clear up misconceptions about rivalries within women’s basketball, she made some statements to set the record straight, particularly in support of the Chicago star.

It all began back in January, when Caitlin Clark’s ex-teammate from the NCAA made a block attempt during the Laces and Roses game, which also featured Angel Reese. Soon, rumors spread like wildfire, claiming that Angel Reese wanted the former Hawkeye out of the league.

Angel Reese Caught in the middle of controversy

This sparked a massive controversy around Angel Reese. Despite the truth eventually coming to light, speculation continued to circulate. The issue escalated after a fan’s post online reignited the fire.

“SHOCKING: Angel Reese asks the league to remove Kate Martin after the former Iowa star sent her ‘back to the swamp’ in an intense matchup during a record-breaking debut,” read a post from a WNBA fan with the username @recruit.the.hood. The user later admitted to sharing the post without knowing the full facts.

Kate Martin herself directly messaged the user to clarify the situation. “Hey, that post about Reese wanting me out of Unrivaled is completely false. I try to stay away from social media nonsense, but I couldn’t let that slide. I don’t like seeing misinformation like that.”

Following this, the user publicly apologized for the disinformation-fueled controversy. “I feel like an idiot… I want to apologize to @angelreese5 because I criticized her the other day thinking she wanted Kate out of the league… Kate messaged me today, and I felt terrible,” the user wrote on Instagram. “I try to post real things, but in this case, I messed up… The fault is nobody’s but mine…” they added about the situation with Angel Reese.

The Power of Social Media

This entire controversy highlights the immense power of social media and the dangers of disinformation. A single false narrative can directly influence how fans perceive an athlete. In this case, Angel Reese became the primary victim.

Both Angel Reese and Kate Martin are among the most promising players in women’s basketball. Every move they make is scrutinized, which can bring its own unique challenges and pressures.

Turning a New Page

Amid all the buzz and supposed rivalry, Angel Reese seemed unfazed. Instead of directly addressing every rumor, she silenced critics and bad press with epic performances on the court.

“For someone ‘so hated,’ I must make them really nervous. Having to lie to gain attention is a wild move,” Angel Reese wrote on X, shutting down any lingering doubts. She also addressed comments on the WNBA’s new collective bargaining agreement (CBA), leaving no room for ambiguity.

Reese touched on this topic during her podcast Unapologetically Angel alongside DiJonai Carrington. It seems Reese is advocating for better salaries and compensation across the WNBA. While the controversy continues, Reese remains focused and determined on the court.
