The Dallas Cowboys are considering an immediate strategic move to keep an emerging star. This decision would cost the franchise $25 million, as Jerry Jones looks to build a promising roster for the upcoming NFL season.

One of their most valuable players is heading straight to NFL free agency. However, the team’s board does not want to lose him, as they see him as a key piece. That is why they must make a final decision soon, and time is running out.

A decision against the clock

Jerry Jones and his team want to hold on to a rising NFL star—a defensive lineman who has significantly improved in Dallas. In fact, his best season was 2024, when he recorded the most tackles and quarterback hits of his career. Without a doubt, the Cowboys do not want to lose him.

Osa Odighizuwa is the valuable player keeping Stephen Jones, the Cowboys’ vice president, on edge. He confirmed that negotiations are underway to keep Odighizuwa in Dallas: “I think Osa is a very good football player. He is an important piece,” Jones stated.

It seems that a deal is close, meaning it will soon be clear whether Odighizuwa will officially remain a Cowboy. If so, no other NFL team will be able to sign him. The proposal is a long-term contract—will he accept it? That remains to be seen.

If the deal is finalized, Odighizuwa’s contract with the Cowboys would be for one year at $25 million. However, that figure could be lower, as Spotrac estimates his current market value at $21 million per year.

There is also the possibility of a three-year contract worth $63 million. This must be settled quickly, as the NFL free agency period begins next week. If the Cowboys want Odighizuwa back, they must act fast.
